Agriculture
Ökologische Bio-Landwirtschaft
At the heart of Kulika’s community development program: training farmers through experiential learning, practical work, on-farm experimentation and demonstrations.
Land is cultivated without artificial fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators or livestock feed additives. Kulika educates local people towards a more sustainable relationship with their land to increase health, food security and family incomes.
Agriculture
Ausbildungsprogramme
Training in good agricultural practices to help farmers sustain their land, cultivate their crops and increase their yields.
Farmer to farmer extension, key farmer trainers and 11 month courses covering organic agriculture, appropriate technology, gender and family life, livestock and crop husbandry, farm management, soil and water conservation, and nutrition.
Agriculture
Demonstrationsfarm
A living classroom where farmers, researchers and enthusiasts see the impact of ecological organic agriculture first hand.
Demonstration farms let us teach appropriate technologies and test new methods side by side with traditional ones. Farmers more readily adopt practices they see working under local conditions.
Agriculture
Kulika Trainingszentrum
Opened in April 2007, a self-financing unit that grows and sells organically produced marketable crops.
Activities include research, trainings, enterprises, animal production, food forests, accommodation and hall facilities, and farm tours.
Agriculture
Stärkung der organischen Wertschöpfungskette
Helping smallholder farmers overcome limited access to organic inputs, weak market linkages and lack of certification.
Goals: better organic practices, access to inputs and certification, stronger market linkages, value addition and processing, and awareness of organic farming’s benefits.
Bildung
Bildung
As a country develops it needs people with the skills to meet new challenges. Kulika has provided educational opportunities for many years.
Collaborations with The Open University and Manchester University have enabled students to access quality education and gain essential skills.
Bildung
Stipendien
Targeted scholarship programs that have positively impacted over 2,000 individuals in Uganda and the UK.
The Open University with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (1999 – present) supports a distance-learning MSc in Development Management for people from Kenya and Uganda.
Bildung
Berufliche Qualifizierungsmaßnahmen
Over 1,500 scholars assisted in higher learning and over 500 students supported to obtain occupational skills.
Scholars now contribute to development in government agencies, the commercial sector and charity services.
Bildung
Erste Kindheit Entwicklung
ECD centres for vulnerable children of market vendors in Ggaba and Nateete markets.
Started at Katutandike, a sister organization of Kulika Uganda. The centres give children the care, nutrition and protection they need while their mothers work.
Innovation
Kreatives Potenzialsteigerung
Giving farmers skills to improve their livelihoods through innovation and design, developing technology prototypes for their farms.
Prototypes are designed, refined and replicated, generating income, improving health and safety, or saving labour. The process prioritises self-reliance and local knowledge.
Learning
Gemeinschaften langfristig unterstützen
Tracer studies to locate past beneficiaries and assess the progress they have made.
Findings inform funding applications and help management link success to Kulika’s mission and vision.
