World Vision Uganda in collaboration with World Vision Finland, World Vision Ireland in pattern ship with Kulika Uganda implemented a 3-year European Union funded project named ‘Cross Sector Collaboration for Inclusive Green Growth in Busia and Tororo Districts to support green job creation for women and youths in Busia and Tororo districts through enhanced skills, linkages and enabling environment.

The Project engaged 6000 women and youth farmers through 200 local producer groups to improve green production skills, enhance access to green market opportunities and create jobs through different selected enterprises.

This was done through training on green production practices and offering support for market linkages. The intervention will result in increased economic self-reliance of the women and youth farmers in Busia and Tororo district.

The project resulted in the development and strengthening of women’s and youth farmer groups. There were 200 farmer field schools formed, trained, and overseen. In conjunction with the sub-county leadership and World Vision staff, 48 TOTs (40 boys and 8 females) were chosen. A total of 5611 farmers who were involved in the production of groundnuts and sesame were trained in organic farming principles and techniques (3665 women and 1946 youths). While 387 farmers (202 female and 185 male) participated in actual soil and water conservation trainings. Within FFS, demonstration sites for organic farming practices were established in the eight subcounties of Busia and Tororo: 100 for sesame and 47 for groundnuts. Promote market access for local producer groups in green value chains. The communities of Busia and Tororo have increased their understanding and adoption of green home practices.
