(i) Key farmer training

During the year, 15 key farmers (7 females, 8 male) were trained in commercial poultry rearing, fodder conservation, mushroom growing, piggery production, zero grazing unit, banana management, making seed boxes, food processing and value addition, farm power & appropriate technology, water harvesting, grafting, making of briquettes, farm planning and record keeping, The training was conducted at the Kulika Training Center, Lutisi, Wakiso District.

ii)   Training Youth on Kitchen Gardening

A total of 24 youth (14 male and 10 female) participants were trained on Kitchen gardening in Nebbi District. The youth were trained in practical skills in soil fertility building through making compost manure, plant mulches, green manure rings, farmyard manure, plant tea, plant Porridge/slurry and animal manure. Trainees were exposed to basics in seed selection principles & practices, nursery management, soil fertility building, application of various types of manure, transplanting, field practices which included; plant/crop spacing, staking, pruning, harvesting and crop rotation. Trainees were exposed to knowledge in pre and post-harvest management and marketing. The training was supported by AFARD.

iii) Creative Capacity Building Training

We conducted a 5-day CCB training for 26 participants in Mbale District. The training equipped the farmers with knowledge and skills to develop labour saving technologies using waste polythene paper. The trainees designed a briquette mixer and extruder, a water filter and a knapsack sprayer. The training was supported by Micro Development for Alleviation of Poverty through Learning (MAPLE)
