FARMER TRAINING PROGRAMS.
11-Month Sustainable Organic Agriculture Training Program. This course includes residential training and trainer-supervised on-farm practice. The training includes topics such as; Soil fertility building and management, soil and water conservation, Crop and livestock husbandry, Food and nutrition, value addition and marketing. Farmers who apply for this course are aged between 20-50, have access to small scale farms of minimum of 2-3 acres and more than 1 year of farming experience. they are active learners, communicators and willing to share the knowledge they gain. 5-Month Tutor Training Course. This course is designed to contribute to the improvement of the agricultural extension provision in Uganda. The course is attended by people who have completed training in the Universities and higher institutions of learning and are practitioners in the fields of Agriculture, Veterinary and Community Development. 1 Day - 4 Month Short Courses. The short courses are demand driven and tailor made according to the needs of the clients sch as NGO's, Government agencies, CBO's and farming community in Uganda. At Kulika Centre, people are transformed into Key Farmer Trainers, Tutors and Agricultural Extension Officers who contribute to the development of agriculture in Uganda. The training is 30% theory and 70% on-farm practice conducted by qualified and experienced Trainers. Demonstration Unit. This unit provides trainee farmers with hands on experience of growing crops and rearing livestock. Practices such as kitchen gardening, double digging, compost making, growing of different types of vegetables, natural pesticide castrations, seeding grafting and budding, pig castration and chicken de-beaking are demonstrated. Production Unit. The unit produces and processes crops and livestock for local market to generate income. Both arable and perennial crops are grown e.g maize, beans, potatoes, cassava, bananas and coffee. The livestock include chicken, pigs and goats. The unit has a pine woodlot, livestock fodder. and fruit trees. |
